AFRDI / GECA / BIFMA / SGS Approved Chairs
AFRDI is Australasian Furnishing Research and Development Institute and is an independent not-for-profit technical organisation providing standards, testing, product certification and research for buyers and sellers of furniture.
Most certified office swivel chairs in Australia are tested to AS/NZS4438:1997. An AFRDI Level 6 certified chair is regarded appropriate for people up to about 110kg (unless otherwise stated) and will meet most commercial needs. Level 6 chairs should be able to withstand extremely severe conditions such as police stations, military installations, control rooms and use in heavy industry.
GECA is Good Environmental Choice Australia (GECA) and is an independent, not-for-profit organisation whose mission is to transform the actions of business and consumers to drive a substantial increase in the sustainability of consumption. BIFMA is the trade association for business and institutional furniture manufacturers. Since 1973, BIFMA has been the voice of the commercial furniture industry.
